Because Zepbound comes in several forms (single-use pens, multiuse pens, and vials), always read the specific instructions included with your prescription. However, the basic injection process remains the same:
- Prepare your dose. Depending on your device, uncap and unlock your single-use pen, dial the correct dose on your multiuse KwikPen, or use a clean syringe to draw your dose from a vial. If using the KwikPen, it’s important to prime your pen before each weekly injection.
- Insert the needle. Place the pen flat against your skin, or insert the syringe needle completely under the skin at your chosen site.
- Deliver the medicine. Press and hold the injection button on your pen, or push the syringe plunger all the way down.
- Hold it steady. Keep the needle in your skin for 5 to 10 seconds to ensure the full dose is delivered. If you are using a single-use auto-injector pen, you will hear a second click when it is done.
- Remove the needle. Pull the device or syringe straight out of your skin.
- Dispose of your sharps. Put the used pen, needle, or syringe in an FDA-cleared sharps disposal container right away. Never throw used needles in your household trash.
